The history of the Spiegel Grove Sams

The Spiegel Grove Sams, Chapter 35, was organized July 22, 1979, at the home of Dick and Arline Bower. Former State Directors, Ken and Della Hayes met at the Bower home with two other couples to form the chapter. Dick and Arline Bower are the only remaining charter members.

For the first few years the money making project for the chapter was making apple butter. The chapter was in charge of making the popcorn for the Samborees starting in 1979 and ending in 1996. They were also in charge of the tractor rodeo for the same time.

The chapter collects for the Sandusky County Food Pantry at each camp-out. They also contribute to the Heart Fund, Camp Super Kids, and the Hospice of Memorial Hospital.

The chapter camps the third weekend of each month May through October and has dinner meetings on the third Sunday of each month November through April.
